Tracking Hardware

WakeKeeper tracking works on the devices you already have — any phone or tablet with GPS and a data connection is enough for inshore boating.

Using your own devices​

  • A modern smartphone with GPS and cellular data is the simplest option; no extra hardware or SIM plan is required beyond what you already carry.
  • Most Android tablets include GPS and work well as a dedicated onboard display.
  • On iOS tablets, choose a model with a SIM slot (Cellular models): Wi-Fi-only iPads do not have a GPS chip and cannot report an accurate position on their own.
  • Keep your device updated — we recommend the latest major version of iOS (or the current iOS minus one) for reliable background location reporting.

Dedicated Tracking Hardware​

We are actively exploring low power consumption, set-and-forget tracking hardware for fleets — dedicated devices that report your vessels' positions around the clock, giving you peace of mind without needing a transmit phone aboard.
